About this collection

Providence Heights was founded in 1961, and served as the provincial seat of the former Sacred Heart Province and the novitiate for the Sisters of Providence. The Heights also contained the College of Sister Formation, an accredited school which taught a variety of disciplines to women religious of various communities, including the Daughters of Mary based in Uganda (a supportive relationship between the Sisters of Providence and the Daughters of Mary still exists today). Due to declining numbers of women entering the religious community, the institution was closed and sold to the Lutheran Bible Institute in 1975, at which time the provincial offices moved to the Mebourne Tower in Seattle along with the health care corporation.
